I have decided to defend Charles Xavier from a joint class action lawsuit from former students. The article will be released either late tonight (Saturday) or Sunday afternoon. I am somewhat ill, but I am hoping it is from the lack of sleep. I will get some sleep and rest up. I have already started the article, so it won’t take long to finish.

In other news you can now subscribe to the CBO Productions blog without the use of an RSS feed. All you need to do is go to subscribe via email section of the sidebar (located on the right) and depending if you are a WordPress member or not, all you need to do is follow the instructions. We promise not to spam the emails. All you will receive are emails notifying you of new posts  to the site. So basically it’s a mailing list.

Also we are going to start up search for guest writers. Danius is on a leave of absence for school, and I am in the same boat as him. In order to tide over the periods of no updates, I am looking for guest writers.

This is the criteria for earning a guest spot:
1. Must be comic book related.
2. Must be interesting.
3. Must be well written.

If you prove successful, we might pick you up and feature your articles on the site.  All you need to do to earn the guest spot is submit an example of your work to Comicbookoverkill@gmail.com

Thanks for reading.

Time for me to set unrealistic goals and somehow meet them.

Starting off, I will have a video out by next Saturday (November 28). It probably wont be It Came From The Bargain Bin! as that will require some location shooting that I just can’t get shot and edited by next Saturday. So it will be a surprise. Also concerning In Defense of Identity Crisis, I am going to have to cancel that article. Reason for this action is that the serious complaints against it are very similar to Avengers Disassembled’s flaws. Defending Identity Crisis so soon after Avengers Disassembled will just feel like I am re-treading material and it wont be too creative. So I am going to put that one off for a future date when I can approach it with a fresher mind. With that said, I would like to wrap up the text series of In Defense with a bang. So I am going to think of something and try to have it out this week. Keep checking the site out for news concerning that.

The reason for all these updates is that I have finals coming up, and I need to ace those suckers. That means I’m less likely to be online and update the site. I haven’t done a true update since September and I am sick of it, but school is throwing me for a loop this semester and I need to finish it strong. So to tide everyone over and ease my guilt, I will be trying to get content released by next Saturday before my finals marathon.  I do have some high hopes for the next semester and for the site. I will speak on those after the finals.

Till then, Thanks for reading.

Well guys (I say guys as a general pronoun, I am not being gender biased. It is just how I talk.) you haven’t really heard from me since last week with my call to end Liefeld bashing, but I am here just weary. It has been a long week for me and members of the site. Tests and papers plagued my life, Chad had lab reports and other fun stuff due, and Danius had illness to deal with. Needless to say, writing has been on the back burner for me, and likewise for the others.

In Defense of Identity Crisis is most likely going to be next week sometime after I finish my calculus and organic chem exams (the exact date depends on the exact date on the test). Danius will not have an article this week but instead return next Wednesday like normal (if things improve for him) and I will have a guest review up tomorrow from The Helldragon. You may recall his last review on Nights Into Dreams #1. This time he returns for another installment of the review.

In other news, I have once again started to pick up my sketch pad, pencil, and began sketching character designs for what I hope to be a webcomic. I can’t really say much other than I am not a real artist (very amateur), it will likely be a page a week (maybe more depending on schedule and such), and it will be a super hero webcomic. Outside of that I am not really able to say (aka still in development).

Finally as promised a sketch:

Cable The Duck circa 09-02-09

Cable The Duck circa 09-02-09

Yeah I drew this during the Disney Buyout of Marvel and meant to post it sooner, but never got around to it. So here it is. Basically it’s cable, but as a duck. I did another version, but that was in a notebook and lines ruin it. This was purposely drawn in early Liefeldian style. I liked it.

Thanks for reading. Be sure to check the site out tomorrow for the Helldragon’s Night Into Dreams Review.

Sorry for the delay. Went through several drafts and a rough week of classes before I came to this version. Every version before this I wrote felt forced. This is the one that flowed naturally. I will be redoing some things to the site in the coming days so be ready for some great things to come. Till then here is In Defense of Cyclops, enjoy.

The defendant:

Scott Summers aka Cyclops of the X-men

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I am here today to defend my client, Scott Summers (aka Cyclops), on charges that he is a horrible father and a womanizer. The prosecution also claims these traits, coupled with attitude, are what makes my client a lame, and overall, boring character. The Defense is ready to answer all charges against Mr. Summers.

Evidence #1: Mr. Summers is a horrible father

Exhibit A: Cable

Exhibit A: Cable

The prosecution’s claims that my client is a deadbeat dad is based on Exhibit A, one Mr. Nathaniel Summers aka Cable. The prosecution is only telling you one side of the story. The truth behind Cable is that he was the son of Madelyn Pryor and my client. When he was very young Cable was infected with the Tech-organic virus. If it pleases the court, the defense would like to present what we will call Exhibit B. Warning:  it may be graphic.

Exhibit B: Cable with the TO virus.

Exhibit B: Cable with the TO virus.

As you can clearly see, Exhibit B shows my client’s son with the Techno-Organic virus. This virus would have resulted in the death of my client’s only son. Luckily, a woman from the future arrived shortly after and offered to take young Cable to the future. In desperation my client agreed to hand over his only child as it looked to be the only way to save him from certain death. These are not the actions of a deadbeat father, but that of a desperate loving dad! The prosecution stated that this is the last time my client saw his son until Cable returned a few years later, fully aged. The defense has evidence contrary to this claim. If it pleases the court, the defense presents Exhibit C.

Exhibit C: Slym and Redd Dayspring

Exhibit C: Slym and Redd Dayspring

My client and his then wife, Jean Grey, spent their honeymoon not away on vacation, but instead in the future helping to raise Cable for twelve years of his life. This is truly not a deadbeat dad is it? Mr. Summers took time out of his precious honeymoon and raised his son. This was a noble act of my client and one a true deadbeat would not perform.

Now the prosecution will claim that my client did leave his son long before the Techno-Organic virus infection. My client does plead guilty to this action, but he only did so because of the emotional duress that was suddenly brought about when he heard that his love, Jean Grey, was suddenly found alive. The defense asks, would you not drop everything if you learned a loved one was suddenly back from the dead? My client admits that he is guilty of abandoning his wife and child, but you have to agree that his actions are realistic.

Evidence #2: Mr. Summers is a womanizer

Exhibit D: Scott, Emma, and Jean

Exhibit D: Scott, Emma, and Jean

This is the incident the prosecution is basing their whole womanizing case on, and the defense is prepared to fully explain the incident. I know to the casual onlooker this scene looks just like my client was caught having an affair with Ms. Frost. The truth is that this was not the case. This was within my client’s mind where Ms. Frost was helping him deal with his impotence issues with Mrs. Summers. My client was experiencing these issues after he was possessed by Apocalypse and was “killed”. Once he returned he had difficulty expressing his love with his then wife, Mrs. Summers. Ms. Frost lent her special mental talents to my client and helped unblock his mind. My client and Ms. Frost never had sexual relations till after Mrs. Summers was killed by the mutant terrorist, Magneto (who may or may not have been Xorn). Mrs. Summers even came back briefly to condone the relationship, and it wasn’t till then that my client actually entered a real relationship with Ms. Frost. That makes the claims against my client frivolous and slander!

Evidence #3: Cyclops is a jerk

Exhibit E: Cyclops is a jerk

Exhibit E: Cyclops is a jerk

Now the Prosecution claims that my client’s “Bad” parenting and “Womanizing Ways” are just a part of his larger problem, his attitude. It is no secret my client is a jerk. He has to be one, though. My client was trained underneath Professor Charles Xavier, who according to witnesses, “Sends children to their death in hopes of achieving mutant equality.” A teacher at the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, Kitty Pryde, has even said that he is a jerk. Here is evidence confirming the quote.

Exhibit F: Kitty Pryde on Xavier

Exhibit F: Kitty Pryde on Xavier

With Xavier being the father that orphaned Scott Summers never had, it is only natural for him to follow in his footsteps, so to speak. Also, my client is currently the de facto leader of all surviving mutants. That is far more than enough stress to cause anyone to act a little “jerkish”. The fact that my client is a jerk is what makes him who he is. To change that would change everything my client  is. Truth is, my client is a jerk out of necessity. It is easier for a group to follow someone they hate but respect than someone they like but have no respect for. His attitude commands respect, and he knows this. He may have to push everyone’s buttons, but he does so because he cares.

This attitude towards everything does not make my client boring, but instead a complex person. He has been abandoned by his real father, witnessed the woman he loves die several times (only to come back), forced into being experimented on, and had to lead the mutant race. If anything, he sounds more like an interesting person instead of this boring boyscout that the prosecution makes him out to be.

The Defense Rests!

I am going to change the release schedule. I have been thinking about how much work goes into the articles and how much work school is going to be for me. I am changing “In Defense Of” from Weekly to Bi-monthly, or Two times a month. This would extend the content and allow more time to perfect it.

Other In Defense news, I will be doing a special double “In Defense Of” week. This wasn’t planned at all, but given recent developments in the Comic Book world I feel that I must write up this article. If you don’t know what has happened I will explain. Disney Corporation bought Marvel Entertainment. This has sent shock waves through the comic community and an outpouring of “nerd rage”. So I feel I should defend this deal. It will be in the In Defense format, and it will reflect my true opinion on the situation. I will already tell you I am for it. Expect the reasons why tomorrow. Besides, wouldn’t you want a Darkwing Duck comic? I know I do.

First off, there will be a new “In Defense Of” this Monday, the 31st. The defendant is Jean Grey, and I will be defending her on count of being a Mary Sue. So be sure to check the site out Monday for the new article. Also, I have updated the release schedule for “In Defense of”. To see the schedule check out the In Defense Of page: http://cboproductions.wordpress.com/in-defense/

In other news,
Pull List previews are going to be canceled or at least given a special day of the week. Instead, I will be posting “In Defense Of” in its place. If you want to know what comics I will be reviewing, I will include the list on the Thursday news update.  I just feel the list is pointless, and it has been receiving low views. So it is now canceled to make room for “In Defense Of”, which is receiving high views.

Thanks for reading and be sure to check out the site Monday for In Defense of Jean Grey.

Earlier I said “In Defense of Superboy Prime” was a hit and getting love over at www.thatguywiththeglasses.com. I didn’t really go into detail about the big love I got. I am unsure if you are aware of Angry Joe of the Angry Joe Show, but he picked me for his blog of the week over at TGWTG.com. This is a big honor for me for a lot of reasons. One being that it could give me the push I need to go over and garner more fans, thus reach more people. Another reason is that I was picked out of a sea of blogs for this honor. The last reason is that Angry Joe picked it. Like him or not, it is something when a talent over at TGWTG.com picks your blog for their awesome blog of the week.  As I said earlier, it is a tremendous honor. Here is the link to the podcast by the way http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/podcasts/tranmission-awesome/10807-taep31 In Defense of Superboy Prime is mentioned about an hour into the podcast. It is towards the end. The podcast itself is pretty funny.

While this doesn’t guarantee a lot of things immediately it does give me the confidence to push In Defense into a weekly blog series. I have about 40 ideas planned so far and only need a few more to guarantee a solid 52 weeks. I won’t be divulging all of the ideas right away, but as soon as I get a schedule written up I will post it. I can tell you that the article will permanently go up on Wednesdays once I get several written up. The other articles and reviews will likely be moved to Saturday (as I have been meaning to do a weekend update of sorts).

Also, you may have noticed the new tab at the top of the site. It is In Defense. Since “In Defense” is going to be my first weekly article, I have decided to give the article its own page. There you will find links to all past articles and a schedule for the new ones. It also functions as a place where you can suggest various clients for me to defend. So feel free to suggest. I am always looking for clients.

Now in other news:
New Comic Book Review this week will likely be a text version. This is due to my editing software’s trial running out the day I usually shoot and edit. So that means I either have to film a really bad quality version with my webcam or upload an out of sync video with my digital camera. So to avoid any complications I will be writing it as a text review. It will be more in depth and will feature samples of the art. I have been pondering whether or not to just do text reviews as it will be the quickest, easiest, and probably the best version for the time being. It actually might become Text review in the end if the response is much higher than the videos.

As I stated earlier, the other reviews and articles will be moved to Saturday. Making the site have an update schedule of M/W/F/S. Nothing new really just making it aware.

Well, that does it for the newsbreak. I just wanted to tell you all about the new page and about the Awesome Blog of the week title thing. Thanks for reading.
