Your answer will be included in a future article that I will either writer forwww.Comicbookrevolution.net or Cboproductions.wordpress.com, I don’t know just yet which one will get it. So if you don’t want your answer printed include “DO NOT PRINT” in the reply. Also if you choose to be known, please include some background on yourself for some perspective. Limit it to around 1-3 sentences, please. So without further ado, here is the survey.
1. Given the news of the DC reboot and the decision to renumber every major title, what is your opinion on the idea of comic book re-numbering
2. Do you feel the numbering on a comic is an important aspect to the medium? Please explain your stance.
3. Do you feel that large numbers on the cover of a comic book are off putting to new readers? Please elaborate on this.
4. Why do you think people are so defensive about the issue number on a series?

8. Do you think the upcoming advertising campaign for DC comics will be beneficial to the Reboot and comics in general?
9. Do you think the DC Reboot will successful in bringing in new readers?
10. Do you think that DC will keep this reboot even if it isn’t an overwhelming success?

12. Which title do you think will be canceled first, and why?
13. Big question, with DC’s decision to return Barbra Gordon’s ability to walk, return her to the mantle of Batgirl, and seemingly leaving Oracle behind; what is your opinion on this? Are you glad Barbra is walking again, or do you see this as a blow to the “people with disabilities” community?
14. Finally, what is your overall opinion on the DC reboot?
You can reply to the survey in Comments or, the much prefered way, email. You can email your response to comicbookoverkill@gmail.com

1. Given the news of the DC reboot and the decision to renumber every major title, what is your opinion on the idea of comic book re-numbering
Generally the whole principle annoys me especially if they flip-flop between two numbering systems as we’ve seen with Wonder Woman, Action Comics and ALL OF MARVEL in the 90s. However, as this is being done with a clear goal in mind (at least I hope it’s clear!) I’m remaining hopeful that is will turn out to be a positive thing.
2. Do you feel the numbering on a comic is an important aspect to the medium? Please explain your stance.
I think the number is important to collectors and the comics legacy. In terms of story telling though, no, it bears no relation other than making it clear to the reader what order to go through them in. I do wonder if the whole numbering system is held in too high an esteem in general and perhaps that DCs actions might make it less of an issue.
3. Do you feel that large numbers on the cover of a comic book are off putting to new readers? Please elaborate on this.
No I don’t. I think very large numbers in triple digits show the comic has been running for a long time and is well established. Anyone walking into a comic shop only has to ask if picking up Action Comics 900 will be confusing cos they haven’t read the previous 899 issues and be told, clearly ‘NO’ (although reading from around 875 will help… get the trades).
4. Why do you think people are so defensive about the issue number on a series?
As said above, I think the ideas of comics being collectable and a commodity has a lot to do with this, often more than the most important aspect, the story!
5. The core story at the heart of the DC reboot is the decision to go line-wide “Day and Date” digital releases, which both print and digital version of comics come out on the same day. What are your opinions on this model and DC’s decision to undercut Diamond Distributors?
Honestly it’s about time. Comics as a print medium is shrinking year on year and with books also becoming more electronic with the expansion of the Kindle and other e-readers, they need to keep up. The evolution of the i-Pad is the perfect platform for comic book reading and people are much more willing to lie in bed and click “Buy” than traipse to their local comic shop (usually miles away as there are so few of them left). It’s sad if this leads to more comic shop closures, I hope they will be sustained with trades, Graphic Novels and merch.
6. The Massive DC reboot has brought up discussion on Line-wide reboots throughout the fandom. Do you think Line Wide Reboots are a good idea, especially to attract new readers?
I really don’t know as it’s never been done before on this scale. If it’s promoted correctly I think it will attract new readers but they need to get it into national and global print media to really garner that audience and use marketing opportunities such as the new Green Lantern film to spread the word.
7. Many have called the DC reboot a chance to see what would it be like if we had the internet during Crisis on Infinite Earths. One can assume this means the DC reboot is next Crisis on Infinite Earths. Would you agree that this reboot is very much a Crisis on Infinite Earths?
There is so little information out so far it’s nearly impossible to say. It seems this is more about shaking up characters than destroying the multiverse. Also, while CoIE did reboot some titles, others just continued on with little to do change.
8. Do you think the upcoming advertising campaign for DC comics will be beneficial to the Reboot and comics in general?
I hope so. As I said above, it needs to be massive and far reaching, perhaps even going as far as to advertise on TV between episodes of comic and fandom related shows. It’s a shame Smallville ended before this really…
9. Do you think the DC Reboot will successful in bringing in new readers?
I feel I’ve answered this question above with No. 6 but yes, I do think it will be successful in bringing in SOME but they would be more successful if they made more effort to make their titles more women friendly, represented more people of colour and more LGBTQI persons and PROMOTE THIS FACT LOUDLY.
10. Do you think that DC will keep this reboot even if it isn’t an overwhelming success?
Cynically no. I think if it flopped we’d see a return to old numbering and plots pretty sharpish which would probably add to the damage. If they’re going to do this, they need to stick to it.
11. Of the 52 new DC titles, What is your pull-list for September? Link to the solicits-http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/10/those-52-issue-one-solicitations-in-full/
I may be a slight anomaly having not read comics frequently for a couple of years and yet WILL be reading ALL the 52 new titles at least for the first few months. To follow my thoughts and reviews, I’ve set up a new blog which will chart the whole affair (and is already providing a countdown of articles) http://thedcnu.wordpress.com/ (not trying to pimp but it does answer your question).
12. Which title do you think will be cancelled first, and why?
I am not glad. I think it’s a regressive move and I don’t think it will go any way to garner new readers because not a lot of people know ANY version of Batgirl. I think it removes one of the only active visible disabled people in comics and also removes a character with a strong, feminist and important continuity. All that said, I am less angry than I would be because Gail Simone is behind the title and if anyone can do this justice and give it resonance it is her.
14. Finally, what is your overall opinion on the DC reboot?
I range from between excitement and despair depending on whatever the most recent piece of news is. The fact that DC has only included TWO female creators of any sort on the whole line is very depressing. I really do believe it could be great, give a real opportunity to showcase some of these fantastic characters for a whole new audience and tell some great stories for the stalwarts. It is also a way to give comics a real public push at a time when they are slowly fading into obscurity. I hope it’s good, I really do but I am prepared for bitter disappointment.

I am also glad they left out that LOSER G. Willow Wilson off of the reboot! She does not deserve to have a DC ongoing!
